THE GIVING IT BACK AND PAYING IT FORWARD REAL ESTATE NEWSLETTER
A commercial property owner's redevelopment plans for Sandy Springs will give the downtown district a new appearance and feel.
The developer of Atlanta's Ponce City Market, Jamestown Properties, is seeking a rezoning to renovate Parkside Shopping Center at 5920 Roswell Road. Parkside is about 13 acres in size and is located next to The Hammond Exchange, which houses Whole Foods. That development is also owned by Jamestown.
The developer would concentrate on the west side of the plaza, between Cliftwood Drive and Sandy Springs Circle, at Parkside. The developer wants to construct a six-story building with 23 condominiums and 190 apartment units, as well as 51,400 square feet of new retail space, 63,000 square feet of office space, five townhomes, and 51,400 square feet of new retail space. There would also be more green space, a dog park, and a parking deck.
The commercial mall is in the City Springs district, which allows for structures up to three floors tall. The developer wants the zoning changed to allow up to six floors. According to current designs, 15% of the structures would be three floors or higher, according to Sandy Springs Senior Planner Matthew Anspach.
The project is expected to begin next year and be completed in 2024, according to Jamestown.
The Sandy Springs Cinema and Taphouse are located in Parkside Shopping Center, and the developer has stated that it will be a focal feature of the restored property.
Businesses on the east side of the shopping center that is outside of the almost eight acres proposed for redevelopment would not be affected, according to Jamestown, while businesses on the west side that operate in 51,000 square feet of retail space would be relocated.
This will be a fantastic addition and benefit to the companies and residents of Sandy Springs.
Other projects in Sandy Springs are also underway.
